Explain the aims and objectives of employment regulation. (5OS01 A.C 1.1)
Employment regulation is in place to ensure that people have a fair and just work environment; however, the broader aim is to protect workers from exploitation and thus enhance equality within the workplace. A basic tenet of employment regulation is that individuals should establish social justice at work by ensuring fairness to all employees, especially in terms of growth and development opportunities. With regulations, an employer is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment, limiting discrimination, and making sure each and every person deserves respect and dignity.
Fairness and inclusion in work come as a major part in the regulation of employment. This streamlines legislations that protect against discrimination on grounds such as race, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation. The Equality Act of 2010 contributed so much to eradicating discrimination and touting fairness within places of work. Such regulations help to create an environment within which everyone has equal opportunities and chances and is not open to unfair treatment.
This aside, employment regulation also protects the employee from slavery, discrimination, and unfair or careless actions. It also safeguards them against any form of forced labor, human trafficking, or exploitation at the work environment. Such regulations will save workers from any abuse or discrimination that may arise but rather promote well-being and good working rights.
Moreover, professionals have to be made to understand the economic reasons for employee protection against such practices. These arguments emphasize the negative impacts slavery had on individuals and consequently on the economy at large through discrimination and other unfair acts against employees. When protected, therefore, it leads to stable employees who contribute more to the economy. Furthermore, the practitioners must understand the negative arguments on employment regulations with respect to legislation complexity, poor drafting of regulations, and interest groups opposing workplace regulations. This understanding is important in order to make a case for improved regulations and to address the concerns of various stakeholders.
In employment regulations, there coexist various aims, objectives, and intentions. Among them are the propulsion of social justice at work and the accomplishment of fairness with inclusiveness while exercising protection for employees from slavery, discrimination, or unjust acts. But, it is necessary to understand why these regulations are very important in order to create a just, fair atmosphere while being aware of economic arguments and challenges surrounding the employment regulations.
