5CO01 AC 2.2 Assess how employee selection or employee development impacts organisational culture and behaviour. *Approx. 350 words
Organisational culture is significantly impacted by employee selection since it is a critical phase in organisational staffing. Selection procedures frequently mirror the organisation’s values and strategic objectives (CIPD, 2023). An organisation that places a high value on innovation might favour problem-solvers. For example, my organisation evaluates candidates’ technical proficiency and cultural fit while promoting diversity and teamwork. Organisational culture has a direct impact on organisational conduct. Employees in organisations that share their values, for example, are more integrated and committed to shared goals. To identify candidates that suit their culture, Unilever utilises behavioural interviews and psychometric evaluations (Hu, 2023). With this approach, Unilever has solidified its standing as a pioneer in ethics and environmental sustainability. However, an overemphasis on cultural compatibility could limit various perspectives and homogenise the workforce. In order to foster adaptability and creativity, organisations must prioritise diversity and inclusion during the hiring process. Characteristic prioritising in selection processes has a significant impact on organisational behaviour. For instance, stressing emotional intelligence throughout the employment process might promote empathy and collaboration (CIPD, 2024). In keeping with its open and collaborative culture, my organisation evaluates candidates’ emotional intelligence in its interviewing procedures. Employees with high EQ can foster positive interactions with their coworkers, fostering a cooperative and enjoyable workplace. When learning initiatives are implemented with employees in mind, they have an impact on behaviour and support organisational goals. Formal as well as informal training can be a part of employee growth to support continued skill improvement and professional achievement.
Workplace conduct, attitudes, and competencies are influenced by employee development. Leaders who have undergone leadership development initiatives uphold the organisation’s values (Foster, 2024). My organisation’s mentorship initiatives pair up new hires with seasoned staff members to encourage cooperation and information exchange with the goal of nurturing a culture of learning. To reduce any potential dissonance, development initiatives must align with the organisation’s culture. Promoting innovation without providing opportunities for creative growth may demoralise individuals, diminishing overall their engagement and motivation. Businesses must therefore constantly assess and enhance their development plans in order to adapt to shifting organisational and human needs.
