A person’s job role can be greatly impacted by external circumstances, which are things that transpire outside of an organisation. These elements, which together make up the PESTLE framework, include political, economic, social, technical, environmental, and legal aspects.
Government laws, rules, and policies that control workplace behaviour are examples of political considerations. Anti-discrimination laws, for example, require that all workers be treated fairly, irrespective of their age, gender, or colour (CIPD, 2024). In order to prevent legal issues and to foster an inclusive workplace, compliance with such legislation is crucial.
Organisational budgets and resource distribution may be impacted by economic factors including inflation, unemployment rates, and economic growth. Budget cuts may be implemented by organisations during economic downturns, which could impact staffing levels and available resources, in turn affecting individual responsibilities and workloads (Rahman, 2024).
Social influences include societal expectations, cultural trends, and demographic shifts. For instance, organisations have adopted flexible working arrangements as a result of changes in public attitudes towards work-life balance (Dalirazar and Sabzi, 2020). It is essential to adjust to these social trends in order to retain employee happiness and draw in talent.
Advancements in technology require constant learning and adjustment. When new software or automation tools are implemented, job duties may change, necessitating that workers learn new skills to continue performing their jobs effectively (CIPD, 2024).
Organisational practices are increasingly being impacted by environmental considerations, such as sustainability programs and ecological concerns. Businesses are establishing eco-friendly practices, such as recycling programs or energy conservation, that may have an impact on day-to-day operations and personal obligations (CIPD, 2024).
Legal considerations include adherence to rules and laws outside of employment laws, such as those pertaining to data security and health and safety. Respecting these legal obligations is crucial for maintaining organisational integrity and safeguarding employee rights.
Individuals must comprehend and adjust to these outside influences in order to carry out their jobs well and support the development of the company.
